After my wife and I and our middle-age spaniel got into a wreck in late 2005, he wouldn't relax during a car ride for months. We were in a rental car, but even in our own car he would stand up for the whole trip, wherever we went. This made for a sad and tired spaniel at the end of a couple of rides (of the 450-mile variety), but when we got a new car (a small SUV), he seemed to completely forget that anything bad ever happened in cars. Very odd. You may need to give your pooches some special reinforcement (treats, perhaps??) on rides for a while...
Fred seems to have taken it all in stride. As long as the car continues to take him to the park, all is well. But Ginger was a little leery to begin with, then add in the next day we took her to be spayed, and the day after that we took her back to the vet to be re-stitched... Eeks. She's definitely going to take some work!
That's awesome that the SUV worked out better! Your poor spaniel!
It reminds me of a string of wet sponges; it reminds me of tattered washing on the line; it reminds me of stale bean soup, of college yells, of dogs barking idiotically through endless nights. It is so bad that a sort of grandeur creeps into it. It drags itself out of the dark abysm…of pish, and crawls insanely up to the topmost pinnacle of posh. It is rumble and bumble. It is flap and doodle. It is balder and dash.

Happy to hear you're all physically OK!
